Hacking: Apple and Google Glasses

This week, we’re going to look at the big news out of Apple: Their developer portal – which provides access to everything from developer previews of upcoming software, to registering iOS devices for testing, to submitting apps to the App Store — has been offline since Thursday (Apple initially only stated that it was undergoing routine maintenance but now we know it was hacked and it’s still down.)

Then there’s this little goody regarding Google glasses: Apparently, someone has figured out how to hack the glasses using functionality built into the device to use QR codes for setup.

What do these (and many other) incidents tell us? That cyberspace is still a wild and uncontrolled place with lots of pitfalls that need to be avoided. When two of the largest players in technology suffer damaging hacks like these, it means the rest of us are even that much more vulnerable.
